Carl Carodenuto Scoops Record Third MSPT Title

Season 7 of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) will soon draw to a close on an historic note, after Carl Carodenuto became the first player ever to capture three MSPT titles. To complete his remarkable hat-trick of victories, the Minnesota player took down the MSPT Golden Gates Main Event in Black Hawk, Colorado, for an impressive $114,072 payday.
In December 2015, Carl Carodenuto won the MSPT Canterbury Park for $116,103, before in April 2016 repeating the feat at the same venue for $90,805. Following his latest triumph at the Golden Gates Casino, Carodenuto now boosts his poker earnings to $483,096.
A total of 490 players entered the $1,100 MSPT Main Event to create a prize pool worth $475,300. The noticeable pros then making one of the tournament’s 45 money spots included Ben Keeline in 39th ($2,377), Matt Alexander in 35th ($2,852), Jason Vanstrom in 32nd ($2,852), Scott Stewart in 25th ($3,565), Kane Lai in 22nd ($3,565), and Aaron Thomas in 11th ($8,080).
Carl Carodenuto then entered the final table with the second biggest chip count, but soon added further to his stack after his J-9 sent Kai Wang (A-K) to the rail in 10th. Next, Carodenuto (10-10) eliminated Alex Greenblatt (A-10) in 8th, followed by Bobby Garcia (7th), Brian Gallegos (6th), Adam Wilbur (5th), and Josh Turner in 3rd, to usher in heads-up play against his friend and fellow Minnesotan Rich Alsup.
At this stage, Carodenuto held a 6.5m to 2.5m chip lead over his remaining opponent, and after a brief battle Carodenuto (A-10) called an all-in reraise by Alsup holding 6-4. Despite Alsup pairing a 6 on the flop, an Ace fell on the river to seal a third MSPT title for Carodenuto. Commenting on meeting his friend in the final phase of the event, Carodenuto said:
“We found a last minute ticket. It’s a quick 48-hour turnaround.. Richie and I will for sure compete for POY, I just hope he doesn’t take the lead from me.”
Final Table Results:
1: Carl Carodenuto $114,072
2: Rich Alsup $68,919
3: Josh Turner $44,916
4: Norman Straughn $31,132
