Brett Angell Triumphs At 2014 UKIPT London Main Event
October 15, 2014 11:55 amBrett Angell has won the United Kingdom and Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) London Main Event, after overcoming a field of 1,089 players over five days to capture the title, and collect the £115,083 ($184,991) first place prize.
The £770 buy-in event created a prize pool worth £739,431 and amongst the notable pros then cashing in at one of the 159 money places was Roberto Romanello in 119th (£1,480), Dominik Panka in 96th (£1,480), David Peters in 67th (£1,960), and Fatima Moreira De Melo in 59th (£1,960).
By the time the final table of eight had been set, the UK’s Brett Angell was the chip leader on a 5.19m stack, while Switzerland’s Fabrizio Fuchs was 7th overall with 1.24m in chips. After three hours of play, Fabrizio Fuchs (6-6) then eliminated Caicai Huang (K-10) in 7th for £17,800, before being dealt A-A and doing likewise to a short-stacked Vladimir Troyanovskiy (A-8) in 6th (£23,800).
Next, Brett Angell (A-K) took care of Nickolas Davies (A-Q) in 5th (£32,500), and a while later Fabrizio Fuchs (Qs-3s) got involved in a big pot involving Mark James (Ah-5h), who jammed all-in for 2.96m chips on a Qh-6s-6h flop. Fuchs subsequently exclaimed; “That makes no sense. Why would you do that? You could have the flush draw,” before making the call , and with the turn and river falling 2d and 7c Fuchs exited in 4th for £42,500.
Brett Angell (K-10) then eliminated Sandro Mescola (K-3) in 3rd for £56,500, to usher in the final showdown between Angell and Fuchs for the title. A subsequent deal saw Angell guaranteed £105,083 and Fuchs £98,717 with £10,000 earmarked for the eventual champion, and that moment came when Angell (A-K) and Fuchs (A-9) moved all-in preflop following a raising war. With the board then rolling out 4-2-4-3-8, Fuchs finished the runner-up, while Brett Angell was crowned the 2014 UKIPT London Main Event winner.
