ANZPT Sydney 2012 Won By Gordon Huntly

Gordon Huntly has won the 2012 ANZPT Sydney, after overcoming 461 players over four days on his way to collecting his first career title and the US$238,524 first place prize.
After his stunning victory at Sydney’s Star Casino, the Scottish native now based in Thailand said: “This is an incredible feeling, I have loved playing this event and I am just so elated to have come through such a tough field.”
As the ANZPT $2,200 Main Event reached its final table, Gordon Huntly was lying 4th equal in chips (715k), but with Australia’s Liam O’Rourke way out in front as the chip leader on a massive 3.4 million stack.
First to leave the arena was Martin Rowe in 9th (A$17,518) with his Ah-Kh falling to the pocket nines of Aston, followed soon after by Bradley Lancken in 8th ($23,511), whose pocket kings were cracked by Oliver Speidel’s pocket sevens on a Q-7-2-6-10 board.
Liam O’Rourke (5-5) then dispatched Craig Blight (A-Q) in 7th ($29,965), while he was followed soon after by a short-stacked Oliver Speidel in 6th ($39,185), who pushed his 10-7 into the pocket fours of Anthony Aston.
Liam O’Rourke (2-2) subsequently sent Jason O’Brien (A-K) to the rail in 5th ($48,405) on a 3-2-6-A-Q board, while Gordon Huntly scored his first elimination holding pocket tens to Stewart Ballard’s pocket eights, who finished in 4th for $62,696.
Continuing his rampage, Liam O’Rourke (A-K) took out Anthony Aston (A-J) in 3rd
($80,214), thus heralding in the heads-up phase of the competition but twenty minutes later Gordon Huntly had taken a commanding lead when the defining hand was played. O’Rourke pushed pre-flop with K-9 into the Scot’s pocket Jacks and with the board then falling 4-3-Q-7-4, O’Rourke finished the runner-up for $144,754, while Gordon Huntly claimed the ANZPT Sydney Main Event title.
The final payouts were as follows:
1st Gordon Huntly $226,812
2nd Liam O’Rourke $144,754
