Adrián Mateos Díaz has won the 2013 Estrellas Poker Tour Madrid, after defeating a field of 632 players over five days to lift the title, and collect the €103,000 first place prize.
The €1,100 buy-in main event took place at the Casino Gran Madrid from January 23th-27th and the huge turnout helped create a prize pool worth a whopping €606,720. Amongst the Spanish pros taking place in the competition were such notable names as Santiago Terrazas, Manuel Labandeira, Ruben Velasco, Francisco Jose Torres-Hermoso, Antonio González and Samuel Bernabeu.
However, in the end it was 18 year old Adrián Mateos Díaz who dominated the action to eventually become the youngest champion in the history of the Estrellas Poker Tour. Diaz even eliminated five players at the final table, starting with Sánchez Miguel in 8th ((€11,375), Vincent Delgado in 7th (€15,170) and Angel Botana in 5th (€30,340).
After UK’s Richard Milne (A-J) eliminated Pedro Oliva (Q-10) in 4th (€40,960), the three remaining contenders then agreed a three way deal as follows; Adrián Mateos Díaz (€98,000), Richard Milne (€89,000), Jose Alvarez (€81,000), with a further €5,000 earmarked for the eventual champion.
Adrián Mateos Díaz then proceeded to knock-out Scotland’s Richard Milne to go heads-up against fellow Spaniard Jose Álvarez Álvarez. It subsequently took another three-quarters of an hour before it was all over and Díaz was crowned the 2013 Estrellas Poker Tour Madrid champion.
The final table payouts were as follows:
1: Adrián Mateos Díaz — €103,053
2: Jose Álvarez Álvarez — €88,856
3: Richard Milne — €89,111
