Vanessa Selbst Calls Brunson "An Insensitive Bigot"
September 26, 2016 9:47 amAhead of the US Presidential Election on November 8th, the twitter wars have heated up between those poker pros in the Clinton camp, such as Daniel Negreanu, Erik Seidel, and Vanessa Selbst, and those supporting Donald Trump, including Mike Matusow, Matt Glantz, and Doyle Brunson.
At the end of last week, the heat levels were subsequently turned up a few notches after the 83 year-old Brunson posted a tweet to Seidel stating that he was prepared to bet “a lot of money” that Clinton told as much as ten times more lies than Trump. It didn’t take long for Vanessa Selbst, 32, to join in the chat, and her sharp comments were not at all appreciated by Brunson, with Selbst launching a personal attack on the octogenarian by tweeting:
“You’re just like the rest of the ignorant masses. Recycling talking points, making assertions, avoiding actual facts and logic.”
Not one to let an insult slide, Brunson retaliated by calling her character into question following her attempt to “welch” on a prop bet made with Jason Mercier, after which Brunson requested that Selbst unfollowed his twitter account. Responding to his barb, the women’s all time money winner then wrote:
“TexDolly I haven’t followed you for a long time. And yeah, paying 100k = welching. I doubt u want to start a debate about ethics in poker.”
Up until now the language had been sharp but still above-board, but that all changed after Jeremy Medanich accused the Brunson family of being vile, and of Doyle defending child abusers, referring to Amarillo Slim, which automatically induced a “Fk u, u piece of shit!!!” response from Doyle.
Coming to aid of Selbst was fellow pro Liv Boeree who also aimed some pretty colorful language at Brunson and Seidel, stating:
“@TexDolly @Erik_Seidel yup, thats fucking despicable. how hypocritical of you to shit on Vanessa about ethics.”
In the end, Doyle Brunson seemed a bit overwhelmed by the intensity of all the verbal attacks, and subsequently told Boeree to refer to the insult Selbst had tweeted him before passing judgement. A better example of how to conduct a political debate was then framed by Erik Seidel, who had initially been having the twitter chat with Brunson before the conversation got hijaked. Rounding things up, Seidel tweeted the following message:
“Doyle & I agree on one thing, if u disagree w a tweet fine np, but if u have to express your view w a personal insult I’ll block. #onnotice.”
