Poker Tweets: Trump vs Biden Fight!
March 26, 2018 12:54 pmPoker players are a competitive bunch by definition, and when they are not trying to get the better of one another at the tables they like nothing more than supporting their favorite professional sports teams, or picking a winner from a daily fantasy sports league.
Two of the biggest names in poker are Doyle Brunson and Daniel Negreanu, who together occupy both extremes of the political divide with the former a lifelong Republican and the latter a huge promoter of the Democratic Party.
Over the years, the two poker legends have subsequently fired political broadsides at one another via twitter over a range of political issues, but last week the duo decided to back their respective politicians in the fisticuffs department, too, with Brunson convinced US President Donald Trump, 71, could slap down Joe Biden, 75, the former Vice President in the Obama administration.
Biden and Trump Talk Tough
While such a debate may seem a bit off point when important political issues are at stake, it must be said that it was Joe Biden that actually sparked off the twitter exchange after attending a rally against sexual violence at the University of Miami. At the venue, Biden was asked whether he would consider running against Trump in the 2020 election, to which he replied:
“A guy who ended up becoming our national leader said, ‘I can grab a woman anywhere and she likes it.’ … They asked me if I’d like to debate this gentleman, and I said no … I said, ‘If we were in high school, I’d take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him.”
Despite threatening violence against Trump at an anti-violence demonstration, Biden’s remark was greeted with applause and laughter. Nevertheless, it wasn’t long before the President himself responded with a taunting tweet of his own, stating:
“Crazy Joe Biden is trying to act like a tough guy. Actually, he is weak, both mentally and physically, and yet he threatens me, for the second time, with physical assault. He doesn’t know me, but he would go down fast and hard, crying all the way. Don’t threaten people Joe!”
Brunson & Negreanu Join Fray
While Biden’s comment indicated that he would knock seven bells out of Trump if they were a lot younger and were at high school (ages 14-18), Trump’s response indicated that he still felt he was up to the task now, and that Biden would soon be reduced to tears from a severe Trump drumming, despite being hardened through many years involved in the toughest and dirtiest job of them all, politics.
Nevertheless, a twitter poll conducted by Negreanu resulted in 73 percent of its 10,000 respondents favoring Biden in a scrap, which subsequently evoked an emphatic response from Doyle Brunson who wrote:
“You gotta be kidding. Trump would hurt Joe. He is 50 lbs bigger and more athletic. Trump was a good athlete in his younger days. That doesn’t go away. Joe could win a popularity contest though.”
Despite Brunson’s popularity concession, Negreanu, who is one of Trump’s biggest detractors in a world full of critics, soon shot back with:
“Joe was an athlete too and he’s not obese. Trump does zero exercise and is on the McDonalds diet. If the fight lasts longer than 30 seconds Trump fades from exhaustion. If it goes 3 minutes Trump has a heart attack.”
Tiger Woods Testimony
Brunson was not about to back down after Negreanu’s comeback, though, and even brought in an earlier testimony by Tiger Woods to support his claim following a round of golf played between the two men in 2016 at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Peach, Florida.
“Did you see what Tiger Woods said about Trump? He said he liked the way he moved and how he attacked the golf ball. Can you picture Biden even swinging a golf club? What most impressed me was how far he hits the ball at 70-years-old. He takes a pretty good lash”
Nonetheless, Negreanu refused to accept Tiger Wood’s opinion on face value, and simply put his comments down to being polite, tweeting:
“And you believe Tiger was being honest about that? You don’t think he was going to say something positive no matter what? If you were an Eskimo I could sell you a bag of ice if so.”
While the chances of two US politicians ever coming to blows is about as likely as the NFL banning tackling, Trump and Biden’s exchange has at least captured some people’s imagination, and one can enjoy exploring the possibility of such an encounter further on Brunson’s twitter account.
