Poker Player Gives $10k Reward To Las Vegas Cabbie

Poker Player Gives $10k Reward To Las Vegas Cabbie This week’s most bizarre poker story involved an anonymous poker pro who left a brown paper bag containing $300,000 in the back seat of a Las Vegas taxi, and the honest cabbie who found then handed the bundle of $100 bills to the company’s main office.
Not surprisingly, the forgetful poker player was over the moon to have his money returned within just a few hours of the incident, and to show his appreciation for the Yellow Checker Star taxi driver’s honesty has since handed veteran cabbie Gerardo Gamboa a huge $10,000 reward. In addition, the company also handed Gamboa a further $1,000 reward, making it the most memorable, if not lucrative week in the cabbie’s 13 year-long career.
The extremely generous $10k reward given to Gamboa came as quite a surprise to the veteran taxi driver, and after having handed over thepoker player’s stash, said at the time: “If he doesn’t give me anything, that’s OK. I’m not waiting for any kind of return. I just wanted to do the right thing, and I appreciate what the company did for me.”
Commenting on the extraordinary story, Yellow Checker Star CEO Bill Shranko said that in his 32 years in this business the most ever found in one of his cabs was $9,000, but that after the latest incident that now seems like no big deal.
The story also highlights some of the risks poker pros face when traveling with huge amounts of cash, with a recent near-loss example involving poker player Eric Riley who earlier this month was almost robbed of his $100,000 bankroll after a winning few days in Atlantic City. Luckily, he was able to hail a yellow cab and catch up and retrieve his money from the thief, and on that occasion the cabbie was handed four $100 bills for pursuing the criminal.
