Phil Hellmuth Throws 75mph Pitch At Oakland A’s Game
September 9, 2010 11:07 amPoker legend and 11 times WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth demonstrated he’s as much home on a baseball pitch as the poker felts these days, after throwing a sweet 75 mph pitch Tuesday night at Oakland A’s opening game against the Seattle Mariners.
In anticipation of his opening throw, Hellmuth had expressed his desire not to make a donkey’s ass of himself and had wrote on his Facebook page:
“Please do not look like an idiot and bounce it up there, or moon-ball it and get booed by the fans!”
After he had taken to the baseball mound and thrown the impressive pitch, Hellmuth could hardly contain his exuberance and later tweeted:
“Whew, was simply hoping to NOT embarrass myself, but hurled it 75 mph up middle!! For non-believers–not sure even I believe it–video soon.”
Hellmuth had been in Oakland, hanging out with the Oakland A’s and their stars, which include Landon Powell, Andrew Bailey and Coco Crisp. Hellmuth even took time out to teach the team the fundamentals of Chinese Poker before getting the baseball game underway.
Despite a good time being had by all, Hellmuth unfortunately was unable to inspire the team to victory and they eventually ending up losing to the Mariners 7-5.
Phil Hellmuth has been hanging out with a whole host of sports stars recently, from 14 times Olympic gold medal winner Michael Phelps to Minnesota Vikings’ Adrian Peterson and Arizona Cardinals Larry Fitzgerald. He was also spotted with former US President Bill Clinton.
However, after all his recent hobnobbing it would appear that next step is for all the stars to come to Hellmuth as he prepares to host a celebrity poker tournament. As he explains on his blog;
“On September 11th and 12th I will be hosting a $1 million free roll poker tournament for MGM Resorts International VIP’s at the amazing Aria Hotel and Casino. The VIP’s will have a chance to win a free $1 million in cash! I will emcee the event, and provide free signed books (“Deal Me In”) for all participants.”
