October Nine Robert ‘Treadinwater’ Salaburu
July 26, 2012 2:47 pmDespite entering the 2012 Main Event final table in 7th spot with 15,155,000 in chips, Robert Salaburu’s roughly 50 big blinds will permit him enough leeway to make a concerted effort at taking down the $8.5 million top prize.
Hailing from San Antonio, Texas, Robert Salaburu first started playing poker aged 16 with the now 27 year old explaining: “I’ve been playing poker for like ten years now, off and on. I’ve had some pretty good scores online but also some big downswings so it’s just awesome to have a chance now to win a shit-ton of money.”
In fact, while at college Salaburu was able to earn enough money playing online to quit school and go professional. In total, Robert ‘Treadinwater’ Salaburu has now earned $208,159 online with some of his biggest cashes coming at PokerStars including victory at the $320 Wednesday 1/4 Million for $39,232, 2nd place at the $215 Sunday Second Chance for $34,689, and 4th at the $1,050 Super Tuesday for $29,400.
However, Black Friday obviously reeked havoc with Salaburu’s career and he soon found himself grinding the live arena in both tournament and cash games. Tournament wise, Salaburu had earned $42,411 going into the 2012 WSOP, his biggest cash recorded at the 2011 NAPT Uncasville $1k event, where he placed 1st for a $17,261 payday.
Robert Salaburu then failed to cash at the 2012 WSOP before the $10k Main Event saw a dramatic reversal of his fortunes with the Texan now guaranteed a minimum of $754,798 for making it all the way to the final table.
On Day 5, however, Robert Salaburu’s tournament hopes hung in the balance after being all-in holding Ac-10c, and up against Gjorgji Chuchuk (9-9) and Tom Tran (K-K). Fortunately for Salaburu, the 8c-8h-4c-Jd-Jc board provided him with a flush and he was suddenly propelled into an early chip lead on the day. Robert Salaburu will now be hoping for his fortunes to run equally as well when the 2012 Main Event gets underway come October 28th.
