October Nine Jeremy Ausmus The Short Stack
July 25, 2012 1:06 pmWhen the 2012 WSOP Main Event final table gets underway on October 28th, Las Vegas resident Jeremy Ausmus will be the short stack at the table with 32 big blinds, but with still enough chips remaining as to play beyond simple pre-flop push or fold poker.
Originally from Colorado, Ausmus has been earning a living from poker since 2004 first online and now live, playing cash games at the Bellagio for up to 40 hours per week. Amazingly, the 32 year-old didn’t start playing tournaments until 2008, when he cashed in at the $500 NL Gold Strike World Poker Open in 7th place for $3,674. That was when the tournament bug bit him and he has since recorded some impressive results to amass $427,145 in live tournament cashes.
So far, Jeremy Ausmus’ largest cashes have come at the 2008 Wynn Classic $2k NL, where he finished 2nd for $55,484, and in 2011 at the $4,750 Big Event, finishing 3rd for $190,000. Then at the 2012 WSOP Ausmus cashed 8 times for $66,144 before ensuring himself a guaranteed $754,798 for making it all the way to the Main Event final table.
Despite saying he believes he played well to make it thus far, the poker pro acknowledges the part luck plays in tournament success, and explained on the WSOP website: “I was down to 20-30 big blinds several times on several days. But I just stayed positive and looked for opportunities to get it in. I set-over-set three people during the tournament. And then on the last hand of Day 4 or 5, I got all-in on the turn with queens, and the guy had a set of eights and I rivered a queen.”
If Jeremy Ausmus manages to take down the $8.5 million tournament at the end of October, he will have double cause to celebrate as his wife is also expecting their second child around the same time.
