Horse Racing Sponsors Poker Pro Michael Mizrachi
August 8, 2011 8:50 amBreeders’ Cup Ltd operates the annual series of thoroughbred horse races known as the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, which is considered similar in prestige to American Football’s Super Bowl or the baseball World Series.
Ahead of the two day event scheduled for the 4th and 5th November, horse racing company Breeders’ Cup Ltd has now announced a new sponsorship deal signed with poker pro Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi.
The deal is seen as an attempt to lure more poker players to the race course, with Breeders’ Cup vice president of media and entertainment Peter Rotondo explaining:
“We believe that there is a strong cross-over between poker and horse racing, which has not yet been realized. We’re thrilled to have a relationship with ‘The Grinder’ which will allow for one of poker’s superstars to reach out to the poker world and educate them about the Breeders’ Cup and the over $160-million in liquidity during our two-day event.”
Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi can indeed be described as one of poker’s superstars, as well as being one of the game’s most respected players. Over a career spanning just 7 years, the 30 year-old is already placed 8th on poker’s ‘All Time Money List’ with $11,385,624 in tournament winnings. Counted amongst his many achievements are 19 career poker tournament titles, including a bracelet in the 2010 WSOP $50k The Poker Player’s Championship for $1,559,046 and the same year a 5th place finish in the WSOP Main Event for $2,332,992.
It would appear Mizrachi has also a keen interest in horse-racing, making the lucrative deal a match made in heaven for the Florida pro. Explaining his delight at having been chosen to represent the event, Michael Mizrachi said:
“It’s an honor to be associated with such a well-known name as the Breeders’ Cup. I’ve long been a huge horse racing fan and I am pleased to have this opportunity to align myself with the richest horse racing event with such large wagering pools.”
Part of the Mizrachi’s sponsorship agreement includes a sweepstake via social media whereby a lucky fans will get the opportunity to attend the Breeders’ Cup in November alongside “The Grinder.”
