Dan Shak Joins IveyPoker.com
January 10, 2013 12:42 pmSince announcing itself to the world back in October, 2012, new poker training site IveyPoker.com has continued to grow its roster of professional instructors. Yesterday that roster grew further with the the news that hedge fund manager and high stakes pro Dan Shak has now joined the site.
Although managing the SHK Asset Management company is Shak’s priority, playing poker continues to be a keen hobby for the 52 year old, who earlier stated: “The skill set you need to succeed in corporate life and the financial world is the same skill set you need to succeed at the poker table.”
Dan Shak appears to have that skill set in abundance and since cashing in at his first live tournament in 2004 has amassed an impressive $4,111,718 in winnings. However, 2010 proved a breakout year for the part-time player after Shak won his first major title in the guise of the $100k Aussie Millions Challenge. Even more impressively Dan Shak overcame a final table that included Tony G, Tony Bloom and Phil Ivey, whom he proceeded to beat in heads up play to take down the $1.2 million first place prize.
The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure also seems to have produced some good results for the father of three and in 2012 he finished 2nd at the $100k Super High Roller Event for $846,700, and at this year’s $98k Super High Roller Event finished 8th for $228,960.
Talking about his reasons for signing with IveyPoker.com, the hedge fund manager explained: “I have always insisted that poker is a hobby for me and have consistently turned down any business offers related to it. But when Phil asked me if I wanted to join Team Ivey, I was more than prepared to make an exception. Phil is not only a good friend, but also the best poker player in the world if you ask me. So it is an honour to be part of this team and everything that it represents.”
