Brian Rast Wins $600k From Bicycle Prop Bet

It seems like cycling prop bets are all the rage this year, with thousands of dollars having already been offered to players willing to complete the 300 or so gruelling miles between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The first person to accept the challenge was Dan Bilzerian who completed the journey in 48 hours to receive a $600k prop bet from Bill Perkins. Dan Bilzerian subsequently paid Samantha Abernathy a $10,000 sum for completing a 72 hour version of the wager, and a month and a half later Brian Rast has now become the latest gambler to finish the bike ride to scoop a $600k bet put up by Bilzerian and Perkins together.
Brian Rast was tasked with completing the ride in less than 48 hours, despite having just three days to train for the event, and was confident enough of his chances to put up $100k of his own money at odd of 6:1. As the 34 year-old pro tweeted after accepting the bet:
“Differences between my bet & @DanBilzerian: no drafting, 320 miles (30 more), only road bike (no recumbent), I’ve had 3 days of training.”
Despite his lack of training for the challenge, Brian Rast said that he felt confident on account of the level of fitness he already enjoyed, as well as taking comfort from the fact Bilzerian managed the journey in just 33 hours. Nevertheless, the ride does appear to have been towards the outer limits of what he considered possible, and as he later posted on social media:
“If that was any more difficult, I don’t think I could have completed the task. I pushed myself to the absolute limit.”
Brian Rast is currently ranked at number 12 on poker’s all-time money list with $16,313,290 in live career earnings, as well as two WSOP bracelets to his name. This year, however, Rast has yet to cash in at a single tournament, but the recent addition to his bankroll is sure to give him a major boost ahead of the upcoming 2016 WSOP in Las Vegas.
