Sun Poker Shuts Shop Today it was announced that SunPoker.com has shut its doors for good, with their customer accounts now being transferred over to OmniCasino.com.
The online poker site used to be located on the iPoker network, which  recently split in two with the so called ‘parasitic skins’ then being relocated to iPoker1. At the same time, the top tier sites often responsible for bringing new customers to the network, such as William Hill, Bet365, Paddy Power, Titan Poker and Poker770, were moved to iPoker2, thus depriving iPoker1 sites of fresh recreational players.
However, the company will still continue to operate its online casino brand called Omni Casino and explaining the rationale behind its decision further, a representative said: “Due to changes made on the iPoker network in September 2012, we could no longer provide our valued members the poker experience they have come to know and enjoy at SunPoker. The move will help the company focus on what it does best: casino operations.”
Caribbean Sun Poker first launched in 2002 on the Cryptologic Network, before later re-branding itself as Sun Poker. However, despite first offering amongst the most preferentialrakeback and bonus schemes, the Cryptologic Network ran into trouble in 2006 after the UIGEA was introduced to the US. This resulted in the exodus of many big skins away from the network due to declining traffic.
Since announcing its closure, Sun Poker was quick to highlight it would continue to operate its online casino software, and that customer accounts would be “100% safe and secure.” As a company statement explains:
“All SunPoker player account details and balances are safe and have been transferred over to our flagship brand Omni Casino in full. You can login into Omni Casino’s Cashier and deposit or withdraw in the exact same fashions previously available at SunPoker.”
