PokerStars Partners Up With English Rugby Football Union (RFU)

PokerStars, as the largest online poker card room in the world, has been involved in a wide range of sports sponsorship deals in order to promote its brand. The last few years alone has seen the colossus of the poker world sponsor teams from a range of sports including hockey, basketball and auto racing.
This November will see another sport added to its books as it partners up with the Rugby Football Union (RFU), the rugby union governing body for men’s rugby in England. PokerStars advertising will become a feature of the RFU’s headquarters at Twickenham for at least the next two years as PokerStars becomes the ‘official gaming and casino partner of the RFU.’
The sponsorship agreement will allow Pokerstars to advertise at matches, utilise player images, gain access to signed merchandise as well as promote joint ventures such as offering tickets to England international games as part of their poker tournament promotions.
Regional Director for PokerStars, Julia Tasker, said:  “As a brand we are excited to be involved with the RFU. This two-year sponsorship deal will continue to associate the PokerStars brand to premier sporting events and talent, whilst also enabling rugby fans to interact with the world’s premier online poker room in live environments.”
Business Operations Director for the RFU, Paul Vaughan, commented: “It is always exciting to welcome a new partner to the RFU family. The growth of the game over the past few years has deepened and broadened our supporter base both at matches and through our supporter clubs and as a result our rugby watching audience is a perfect match for brands like PokerStars. We are looking forward to working closely with them to help them meet their sponsorship objectives.”
The PokerStars brand will now appear alongside such big time corporate sponsors of the game as O2, Nike, Green Flag, Land Rover, EDF Energy and Emirates Airlines.
