JJ Liu Elected Into Women Poker Hall Of Fame

JJ Liu Elected Into Women Poker Hall Of FameThe Women in Poker Hall of Fame is designed to honour the contributions women have made to the poker world over the years. Nominees are also required to be aged over 35 and to have been active in the poker industry for at least ten years, either as a player or working within the industry.
This year, 10 nominees were put forward as potential candidates for the honour but in the end just JJ Liu and Kathy Raymond found themselves immortalized in the pantheon of women poker legends.
JJ Liu is currently listed 7th on the ‘Women’s All Time Money List’ with $2,595,841 in earnings and is also the highest placing female in the WPT having finished runner-up to Ted Forrest at the 2007 WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars for $600,000. Born in Taiwan, “JJ” Liu, 47, moved to the US to study for a Master’s degree in computer engineering and later became a software engineer before discovering she had a talent for poker.
Kathy Raymond, too, is a proficient cash game player but it’s her contribution as an industry professional that ensured her a place in the Hall of Fame. In the accounting field for twenty years, Kathy Raymond craved some excitement and decided to become a dealer in 1992 and by 1998 had worked her way up to Director at Foxwoods. She then  later became the Director of Poker Operations at the Venetian Casino in Las Vegas, which is her current position.
In a previous interview, when asked what her greatest contributions has been to the poker world, Kathy Raymond replied: “I believe that the introduction of Deep Stack poker tournaments, which I formally introduced at the Venetian in 2007, changed the industry for the better..I was [also] the first to sign up to be a charter member of the World Poker Tour in 2002. I realized very quickly that televised hole cards would bring a whole new segment of players to the tables.”
Congratulations to both JJ Liu and Kathy Raymond for being inducted into The Women in Poker Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will now take place on August 31st at the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas.
