themadbotter: Confessions of a High-tech Poker Cheat
July 25, 2016 11:17 amLast weekend, a 2+2 poster called “themadbotter” had the online poker community in a stir after he created a detailed thread on the forum describing his poker bot exploits on the U.S. online poker website, America’s Card Room (ACR).
According to “themadbotter”, he successfully managed to amass $30,000 in winnings over a six-month period playing mostly $50 and $100 No-Limit Hold’em cash games on the site. The online player also admitted that the effort required to constantly improve and keep the bot’s performance ahead of the competition was “extremely time-consuming”, ultimately leading him to pack in his lucrative cheating endeavors in order to focus on a more meaningful new career due to start in September.
Furthermore, “themadbotter” claims to already be a winning 6 max cash game regular who only created the bots as a scientific type experiment, rather than for monetary gains. Elaborating further on his 6 month undetected botting escapade on the Winning Poker Network (WPN), “themadbotter” said that a good bot is impossible for other players to detect, explaining that his bot would:
“..randomly sit out and take breaks every couple of hours, never played for more than 6 hours at a time, frequently switched tables and joined waiting lists.. misclicked every so often, typed short comments in the chatbox on rare occasions, and had randomness built into the playing profile.”
Needless to say, the thread attracted a great deal of interest from players, but after a poster called “NovaCaine” said that he believed he knew the identity of “themadbotter” , and that he would be contacting WPN’s security team, the mystery player suddenly tried to dismiss his thread as fabrication, and an attempt at trolling. As he then wrote:
“ACR should ask to have this thread deleted since there is no reason why my unfortunate misstep, with no proof or evidence to support any of the allegations in this thread, should unnecessarily cause them financial harm or bring negative publicity.”
Whatever the truth may be, “themadbotter” has now disappeared off the radar, leaving behind just a tantalizing, but brief glimpse of the current state of online poker cheating using that most accursed of computer programs, the poker bot.
