SuperStar Showdown: $6 Million Man Eugene Katchalov v Isildur1
February 8, 2011 11:04 amPokerStars has just announced that Viktor “Isildur1” Blom will now take on Eugene Katchalov this Sunday, in the fourth installment of the SuperStar Showdown.
So far, Isildur1 has won two from three of his 2,500 hand challenges played over four tables of $50/$100 NLHE. Only Isaac Haxton managed to win $41,700 from Isildur1 to win the match, with both Tony G and Daniel “jungleman12” Cates dropping $44,820 and $51,196 respectively.
Now, the next dangerous opponent hoping to score a win over the Swedish pro touted to be one of the finest heads-up NL specialist in the world, is none other than US pro Eugene Katchalov.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Ukranian born New Yorker, a quick look at his results will make the picture a lot clearer. Since cashing in at his first live tournament on December 11th, 2004, the 29 year-old has gone on to amass a staggering $6,012,343 in live tournament winnings.
Katchalov biggest score to date came on Dec 18th, 2007 when he won the WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic for $2,482,605. More recently, however,on January 6th, 2011 Katchalov also won the PCA $100k Super High Roller to book his second largest score to date of $1.5 millon.
According to bluffmagazine Eugene Katchalov has also earned around $831,118 playing tournaments online, mostly under the name “myrabbifoo.” His biggest online win came in 2009 after winning the WCOOP $530 Heads-Up event after a marathon 21 hours to collect the $133,000 first place prize.
As well as his tournament background, Eugene Katchalov is known to have strong cash game abilities, which he will now be hoping to put to good use against his 20 year-old Swedish opponent.
