Rafael Nadal Sponsored By PokerStars

Rafael Nadal Sponsored By PokerStarsThe world’s largest online poker site PokerStars has just announced its latest sponsored signing to be none other than the Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, the Majorca born star’s list of accomplishments include winning 11 Grand Slam titles, as well as racking up around $50 million in prize money since turning pro in 2001. The 26 year old will now receive training from PokerStars pros and be expected to play in online tournaments, and take part in PokerStars advertising promotions and charity events. Commenting on his latest deal representing PokerStars, Nadal said:
“It’s no secret that I love to compete and try my very best in everything, whether that’s tennis, golf or video games. When I discovered the game of poker, I chose to join PokerStars because they understand what it takes to be the best and associate themselves with the qualities of champions. I’m very happy to be working with them.”
The sportsman’s native home of Spain recently regulated its online poker market with many of the top online operators, including PokerStars, subsequently receiving licences from the Spanish government. The site is aiming to cash in on the domestic gambling market whose gross revenues reached €9.5 billion in 2010, and it is hoped sponsoring one of the country’s greatest sportsmen will play a key role in attracting players to PokerStars.
Commenting on their star signing, PokerStars Chairman of the Board Mark Scheinberg, said: “Rafa Nadal represents all that is great about competition – the mix of talent, intellect, dedication and mental strength that you find in champions in every sport. We are proud to have Rafa as an ambassador for the brand and excited at the opportunity to help him enjoy and improve his game.”
