Preliminary SuperStar Showdown: Jungleman12 Takes $60k Off Isildur1
January 27, 2011 10:27 amAs part of the PokerStars SuperStar Showdown, Viktor “Isildur1” Blom has accepted the challenge of taking on Dan “jungleman12” Cates heads-up on Sunday January 30th at 5:30 p.m. ET.
These top pros are widely touted as being among the best No Limit Hold’em heads up players in the world and ahead of the highly anticipated match-up, the duo actually got involved in a preliminary mirror of the SuperStar Showdown last week.
The rules of the SuperStar Showdown stipulate that Isildur1 and a challenger will play four tables at once of $50/$100 heads up NL or PLO over 2,500 hands in a single session.
Last Friday, roughly in accordance with the rules of their challenge to come, the pros played 2,662 hands of $50/$100 NLHE, the final result of which ended in a $60k loss to Isildur1. In fact, Jungleman12, known as “w00ki3z” on PokerStars, did such a good number on his Swedish opponent that Isildur1’s frustration was apparent in his chat log with Jungleman12, which went as follows:
Isildur1: u so bad its embarrassing
Isildur1: how can u win so much money
w00ki3z.: lol?
Isildur1: such a joke how u play
Isildur1: u win like 10 flips in a row to
w00ki3z.: lol
w00ki3z.: so many things wrong with what you just said ;/
Isildur1: i play this session until i bust u or u quit
w00ki3z.: kk lets play
Isildur1: lets get more tbls
However, it has not all been one way traffic in the past and Dan “jungleman12” Cates confessed to being put under extreme pressure after losing half a million dollars to Isildur1 back in 2009 when the Swede was in the midst of his historic run at Full Tilt. As Jungleman12 recalls:
“When I lost $500,000 to Isildur1 and lost $90,000 the next day, the thought, ‘oh sh-t, I might go broke,’ started running through my mind because that was a huge chunk of my bankroll at the time. I took a few days off after that. Other than that, I haven’t been in danger of going broke for a very long time.”
With such a history between the two heads-up specialists, this latest installment promises to be the most exciting and explosive yet. Be sure not to miss the action this Sunday as Viktor “Isildur1” Blom takes on Dan “w00ki3z” Cates on PokerStars.
