Negreanu Versus Isildur1 In Latest Superstar Showdown

The next installment of PokerStars Superstar Showdown is bound to be a real treat for fans everywhere as tournament pro Daniel Negreanu prepares to put his recent online cash experience to the test against Swedish heads-up specialist Viktor “Isildur1” Blom.
However, being such a match to savour and involving two of the site’s biggest draws, PokerStars have decided to run the whole thing twice.
Therefore, on the 20th March the two players will bring $150,000 to the online arena and play their 2,500 hands of $50/$100 no-limit hold’em over four tables. The following week on the 27th, the players will then carry their stacks forward for round two of their Superstar Showdown.
Never one to back off from a challenge, Daniel Negreanu, 36, has been looking forward to pitting his skills against his 20 year-old opponent for some time. However, Negreanu knows he has an extremely tough task ahead of him if he is to succeed as he is taking Viktor “Isildur1” Blom on at his own game.
Isildur1 is not only a multi-tabling heads-up specialist but his Superstar Showdown results of four out of five wins for a $166,075 profit is testimony indeed to his proficiency at this format.
By contrast, Negreanu maybe one of tournament poker’s biggest winners with $14,116,191 in live winnings but he has only started turning his attention to the online cash game relatively recently.
According to pokertableratings.com, Negreanu started experimenting at PokerStars cash tables in any meaningful way since around March 2010. During that time his profits have ranged between -$305,000 and +$212,000 and currently is on -$72,633
More recently, Negreanu has started four-tabling $5/$10 NLHE against some challenging opponents to home his multi-tabling skills ahead of his upcoming match, and commenting on his training Negreanu said:
“It’s all part of the learning process, and I’m a big believer in going all out against the fastest competition I can find, because then when I play others, the pace will seem comfortable. It’s no different than a baseball player swinging five bats before he goes up to the plate, or a golfer taking some practice swings with a heavy club.”
Be sure to watch the PokerStars SuperStar Showdown between Isildur1 and Negreanu starting 15:00 ET Sunday, March 20th and March 27th.
