Chinese Player Refuses "Unholy" £4,444 Online Slots Win

Superstition often goes hand in hand with gambling, and no where has this link been more clearly demonstrated recently than by a Chinese slot player’s refusal to collect his £4,444 winnings.
In Chinese culture, numbers are either lucky or unlucky depending on the similarity in their pronounciation to other words. For instance, the number 3 is lucky because it sound similar to the word for “birth.”
However, the number 4 is considered one of the most unluckiest of numbers in Chinese, Japanese and Korean cultures as it sounds almost exactly the same as the word “death”.
Imagine Chinese player Mr C’s combination of surprise and horror then, after he  hit a slots win at online casino JackpotCity.com for the ‘unholy’ sum of £4,444.
As JackpotCity.com spokesperson Terry Maverick explains:
“The player contacted our customer services department, quite concerned about the winning amount. He was obviously keen not to lose out on the money but at the same time wary of bringing bad luck on himself or his family. It is a first for us, where a player refuses to accept the cheque for their winnings.”
The Chinese occupy a special place amongst the world’s most superstitious cultures and not only does it influence their day to day lives, but it takes on a whole new sphere when it comes to gambling. As a consequence Terry Maverick said he is now attempting to work out a formula which will allow Mr C to collect his winnings without compromising his superstitious beliefs. Perhaps they could start by knocking £11 of his winnings and handing  him  a cheque for £4,433, thus representing a perfect balance between the forces of life and death.
As the mysterious dilema continues, here are a list of  beliefs I found on 777.com, that are generally accepted by superstitions Chinese gamblers:
    * Don’t count money during a gambling session.
    * Stay away from sex and females (for men)
    * Avoid seeing monks or nuns before going to a casino.
    * Wear red underwear when gambling.
    * Do not touch some one’s shoulder while he is gambling.
    * Females are more likely to win during their period.
    * Don’t check into hotels with bad numbers like 4 or 14.
    * Don’t enter casinos through their main entrance for it is cursed.
    * Switch on all the lights at home before going out to gamble.
