Argentinian Footballer Juan Verón Becomes Ambassador For PokerStarsArgentinian football star Juan Sebastián Verón is all set to join Team PokerStars Sportstars and help promote the game in the growing Latin American poker market.
The 35 year-old Argentinian national team player and captain of reigning South American champions ‘Club Estudiantes de La Plata,’ is a hugely popular player in his native country and for the last two years has been named the South American Player of the Year.
Team PokerStars Sportstars already includes Boris Becker, French rugby union powerhouse Sebastien Chabal, Swedish ice hockey star Mats Sundin, Finnish powerboat racer Sami Selio, Dutch hockey beauty Fatima Moreira De Melo and French tennis pro Gael Monfils.
The addition of Juan Sebastián Verón to the team was announced yesterday by the world’s biggest online poker site, and following the announcement commented:
“It is truly a pleasure for us to have Verón as an Ambassador for PokerStars.net. His sporting and competitive spirit embodies the values of our brand and we feel very proud that this great soccer player decided to represent the number one poker site in the world.”
Veron, who is currently in South Africa as part of 2010 World Cup Championship, can now look forward to representing PokerStars at online events as well as live tournaments, such as the upcoming PokerStars Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT). He will also feature in several internet adverts designed to promote online poker in Argentina and other South American countries.
