7 Year Old Maths Prodigy Now On The Road To Achieving Poker Fame
August 13, 2010 7:41 amAlexa Fisher has been causing quite a stir in the poker community lately, not only because she seems to have already mastered all the poker disciplines which are played at the WSOP, but because she has managed to do all that at the tender age of just 7 years .
As little Alexa Fisher announced recently:
“I know how to shuffle and deal the cards, raise, check, fold, and bluff. I also know how to play deuce-to-seven lowball, H.O.R.S.E., and badugi. I can now play any poker game with the best poker players in the world!”
Being too young to legally compete in any professional tournament before 2024, Alexa Fisher has nonetheless been able to demonstrate her skills at various charity poker tournaments in the past.
At the $30 buy-in charity ‘Homes for Pets’ event held in Schertz, Texas to raise money to help house homeless pets, Alexa reportedly played a shrewd and professional game of poker throughout the tournament, managing to bluff a few pots, pick-up a few tells and outlast over half the vast field before eventually being knocked out.
Showing maturity beyond her years she conducted herself admirably throughout the competition and even took time to shake everyone at her tables hand after being eliminated.
As her father, Justin Fisher explains concerning her finely tuned poker temperament; “She goes in levelheaded, and leaves levelheaded.”
Alexa is also allowed to play for money while at home with her family, and has now got her own bank account and bankroll from her winnings.
The 7 year old poker prodigy currently studies at Sippel Elementary in Cibolo, Texas, where she is a first-grade straight-A student, with a special interest in maths.
Alexa began playing poker at just 3 years of age and chose to visit the WSOP in Vegas last summer instead of most children’s first choice of Disneyland.
While there she got to meet and win the hearts of many of her poker idols, including Phil Hellmuth, the Brunson family, Johnny Chan and Vanessa Hellabuyck. She also got to beat Annie Duke at “rock, paper, scissors” before finally going off with her all time favourite player Barbara Enright for a “Double Frrrozen Hot Chocolate”.
Alexa Fisher is certainly showing all the hall marks of a future poker champ, and her father is in absolutely no doubt his daughter will one day achieve poker fame and success. As he proudly exclaims:
“Alexa knows that someday, some little girl age 5 or 6 will see her in the hallway at the Rio and will yell out, ‘Alexa,’ ask for her autograph, and take a picture with her.”
