40,088 Hands Played in One Day Is A New Online Poker Record

An online Russian poker player called ‘innerpsy’ started playing at PokerStars at 8:30 Saturday morning and didn’t stop until 2:27am the following day. Having played for 18 hours and 33 minutes the 22-year-old Russian pro signed off for the session having accomplished his goal of setting a new online record for the most hands played in a 24 hour period.
The new record of 40,088 hands played would surely have stretched the stamina, endurance and maybe bankroll of a lesser player but ‘innerpsy’ is no stranger to long gruelling sessions online and the poker pro has earned a reputation for being a solid grinder. After completing his record on PokerStars, he said:
“Before this challenge, I had never actually played more than 20,000 hands in a day before, but the idea came up and I just figured I could do it. It was one of the toughest things I have ever accomplished, but I am proud I managed it.”
Explaining how his record attempt came about, the Rusian said, “I didn’t do a single thing to make this article about world record appear. it was just a prop bet and stars representative got interested, so why would i protest if it actually increases my chances to get online pro?”
‘innerpsy’ was not alone during his marathon endurance session and was watched and encouraged by an army of around 10,000 railbirds, with even commentary being provided by poker pro Max Lykov via two streaming video feeds.
‘innerpsy’ has already signalled he was considering doing it all again sometime to improve further on his result, but already he could face competition from a player called ‘ChicagoJoey’ who has said he intends to play for the full 24 hour period and notch up 50,000 hands played.
He said he would be playing $0.10/$0.25 No Limit Hold’em or Pot Limit Omaha tables and, unlike ‘innerpsy’ who ran “cold as ice,” he was hoping to make a profit at the end of his monumental efforts.
