The 2015 GPI European Poker Award Results

On May 3rd, Global Poker Index creator Alex Dreyfus presented the annual GPI European Poker Awards from the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel on the French Riviera. The awards honored players and workers alike from the poker industry, with a shortlist of nominees chosen by 62 media and industry people, before eventual winners were picked by a carefully selected panel of judges.
Two awards, however, were determined purely by the amount of GPI points accumulated by a player throughout the year, with the 2015 GPI European Player of the Year going to Fedor Holz, and the 2015 GPI European Female Player of the Year going to Liv Boeree.
German pro Holtz won $3,492,368 last year, including winning the $100k WPT Alpha8 for $1,589,219, and this year is set for another great year having already amassed a further $4,293,299 in winnings. Meanwhile, Liv Boeree won $539,619 from tournaments in 2015, with her biggest win coming at the EPT Barcelona €25,000 High Roller after finishing 3rd for a €391,000 ($449,383) payday.
On the industry side of things, Remko Rinkema was named the Media Person of the Year, and after picking up the award commented:
“This award means a lot. As someone who doesn’t play, this is the highest thing you can get as recognition for your work. I want to thank Frank [Op de Woerd] mostly for bringing me into the fold about eight years ago and allowing me to do this. Keep reading, keep listening — I love my job, I love this industry, and thank you so much.”
