Alabama Man Wins $1.5m Slots Jackpot At Hard Rock Hotel
July 4, 2013 1:16 pmAn Alabama man is celebrating his incredible good fortune after winning a $1,503,288 slots jackpot while playing the Wheel of Fortune at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Biloxi in Mississippi.
Recent retiree Charles Rhodes of Woodville, Alabama, said he had been touring in the South when he decided to visit the popular Gulf Coast casino on Tuesday afternoon, July 2. He said he had then been playing the progressive slots machine for around 10 minutes when he suddenly hit the massive jackpot.
“This is my wife Debra’s favorite machine, and we always play it,” explained Charles Rhodes after his jackpot was confirmed by IGT Technicians and officials with the Mississippi Gaming Commission.
Mr Rhodes said the life-changing windfall would now help him enjoy his retirement more, while his family, including six grandchildren, would also benefit from his win.
Following the $1.5 million slots payout, The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Biloxi’s Senior Vice President of Gaming Operations Joe Farruggio stated: “We couldn’t be happier. This truly shows that Hard Rock Biloxi is the place Winners play; we pride ourselves in providing great food, great music and a great place to win that leads to the ultimate experience that is Hard Rock Biloxi. I think we have truly provided that.”
Mr Rhodes’ windfall comes a few days after another out-of-state casino patron, an Indiana woman, won $8,316,562 while playing a progressive Wheel of Fortune machine at the Fitz Casino & Hotel in Tunica. The unnamed woman said she now plans to use some of the money on college tuition fees for her grandchildren, and was also looking forward to buying a new kitchen.
Meanwhile, Biloxi man Tom McMillan still holds the record for the biggest ever Progressive Jackpot payout after scooping $14.3 million at the Biloxi casino on February 10th, 2009. Apparently, he had put in $300 into the slot machine and was down $10 when his wife allowed him an extra 15 minutes play on his alloted one hour allowance. That fateful decision changed their lives forever.
