Former Tasmanian Premier Frogmarched Out Of Melbourne's Crown Casino

Former Tasmanian Premier Frogmarched Out Of Melbourne's Crown CasinoAustralian Labor Party politician and former Premier of Tasmania, Paul Anthony Lennon, was kicked out of Melbourne’s Crown Casino last Thursday night, and although details of the incident are a little sketchy, one witness describes five or six security guards first binding the 58-year-old’s hands with cable ties before frogmarching him out of the property.
Apparently the controversial event took place while Paul Lennon, Tasmania’s premier from 2004 until 2008, was playing a game of $2 poker. According to reports quoted from an anonymous witness, the politician started behaving aggressively towards a woman he accused of touching his casino chips, and after refusing to heed several warning from security guards to quieten down, was eventually asked to leave. Mr Lennon allegedly then resisted the attempt to eject him from the gambling venue, reportedly asking the guards: “Don’t you know who I am?”
Confirming the incident, a Victoria Police spokesman said Mr Lennon was subsequently issued with a penalty notice for failing to leave a licensed premise, an infringement which carries a fine of $739.
Just like the politicians which line up on either side of the house, however, Mr Lennon’s perspective on what occurred is markedly different from the story being told by witnesses. According to Paul Lennon it was more a case of misunderstanding, labeling the incident as “ridiculous”. He said the situation arose after a card dealer saw him break casino rules by licking his finger before picking up the cards.
“At one instance I licked my index finger before touching my dealt cards, as you sometimes do. But apparently this is against the rules, something I was not aware of. For this I was removed. I questioned the reason why, but was not given an answer.”
The former premier subsequently asked for the police to be called  “so that everything was done properly,” and also emphasized that he had not consumed any alcohol during the poker game.
