Rivers Casino Celebrates A Golden Year
July 23, 2012 9:14 amThis week, the Rivers Casino in the City of Des Plaines, Illinois celebrated its first year of operation with a performance by Jim Belushi and his band the Sacred Hearts. Meanwhile, both the Rivers Casino and the local community had plenty reasons to toast the casino’s impressive success, with the Des Plaines Mayor Martin J. Moylan commenting:
“It’s an exciting new business that has done a lot for the community. Not only money for infrastructure, but the job. A lot of people from the surrounding communities are also working here, so not only do you have an economic benefit, it’s created jobs for us.”
Overall, the Rivers Casino has created a total of 1,400 full-time jobs paying out around $5.6 million every month in wages and tips. Furthermore, it is estimated the casino shells out an additional $19 million each year to local businesses and vendors, such as US Foods, Paulette Wolf Entertainment and Wirtz Beverage.
In addition, the popular casino with 1,050 slots and 50 table games, sees around 10,000 guests pass daily through its doors resulting in a bumper payout for the State of Illinois which collected a whopping $109.5 million in taxes last year with a further $19.7 million going directly to the City of Des Plaines.
In the space of just one year, the new Illinois gambling house has become the state’s highest grossing casino, and commenting on the impressive achievement, the CEO of Rush Street Gaming Greg Carlin said: “Creating a positive work environment and being a good corporate citizen are two of our primary goals at Rivers Casino. We are proud of the positive contributions we have made in all of the communities where we operate.”
