Two Bad Beat Jackpots Hit In Atlantic City For $1 Million
August 15, 2012 1:26 pmThe start of this week has seen hundreds of Atlantic City poker players celebrating their extreme good fortune following two Bad Beat jackpots being struck over consecutive days for a total payout of more than $1 million.
Monday night saw the first jackpot hit at Caesars Atlantic City when the record multi-casino pooled prize worth $787,320 was released after Narong Sae Whited saw his quad 9’s demolished by Nick Angelakopoulos king-high straight flush. Subsequently, Atlantic City’s Angelakopoulos collected $158,422 for having the winning hand, while Washington resident Whited walked away richer to the tune of $237,154 for coming out second best. In addition, 409 other patrons who were playing at Caesars, Harrah’s Resort, Bally’s and Showboat poker rooms at the time received $958 apiece for their impeccable timing.
The Bad Beat Jackpot is funded by taking $1 from each pot and is released when someone holding at least four kings is beaten by a stronger hand. However, the benchmarks is then reduced every other week until it reaches quad two’s. Consequently, Narong Sae Whited’s quad 9’s was the first time since March 1st that the Bad Beat Jackpot had been hit, and after the payout Eastern Division President for Caesars Entertainment Don Marrandino, commented:
“Yesterday, Caesars Entertainment made Atlantic City history with our $787,320 Total Bad Beat Jackpot hit. Record setting jackpots were made to be won..With the Bad Beat being reset to $393,000, it might only be a few weeks before Caesars Entertainment sets a new record.”
However, the run of luck didn’t end there and the following day the Trump Taj Mahal was the setting for the second piece of extreme luck when two players were involved in a hand where both held straight flushes on a 6s-7s-8s flop. As a result, the losing player with 4s-5s was awarded $224,753, while the winning hand (9s-10s) received $112,753. Furthermore, an additional six players pocketed a whopping $18,729 each simply for being at the table.
