Atlantic City’s Showboat Casino Reopens as a Hotel

Two years after shutting shop, the Showboat Atlantic City is set to reopen for business today, except this time around it will operate strictly as a hotel only. Anyone interested in staying in the refurbished hotel can now visit the venue’s web site at showboathotelac.com, with quoted prices listed including a weekend break rate of $518 plus taxes.
According to new owner Blatstein’s Tower Investments, all bookings so far have taken place only online, with none currently being accepted from walk-in guests. In the meantime, a number of rooms have already been reserved, with guests expected to start arriving at the 852-room hotel on Friday afternoon. Commenting on the development, CEO Bart Blatstein said:
“This is an exciting time for us — Tower Investments embraced this opportunity and hit the ground running to make the opening of this hotel happen in time for the prime summer tourist season. We are extremely proud of this hotel, the fact we are open for guests now and that we are creating hundreds of jobs in Atlantic City.”
The Showboat Atlantic City originally opened in 1987, and in 2003 another 544 rooms were added to its facilities at a cost of around $90 million. After Caesars Entertainment closed it in 2014, Richard Stockton College then bought the property for $18 million later that year, but subsequently sold it on to Philadelphia developer Bart Blatstein in January of 2016 for $23 million.
While the Showboat now offers high-end accommodation, and suites complete with Jacuzzi tubs, as well as a restaurant, and coffeehouse, guests will have to visit one of Atlantic City’s eight casinos if they are looking to gamble. Expressing his hopes for the resurrected venue, Blatstein explained:
“We know that this hotel with its completely refreshed look and new direction will attract new guests to this wonderful city. My confidence and belief in the future of Atlantic City has never been stronger.”
